I've started doing duolingo for improving my English skills.
Sometimes there are some words I don't know, so it is useful.
And it let me know that my pronunciation is really bad.
After I talk with AI character Lily, this APP show me our conversation in text, then I realize that there are different words I talked.
I'm so sorry...
But talking with Lily is a good exercise for me because I have to do quick responce.
That means I have to create English sentences promptly.
That's hard.

I’ve started using Duolingo to improve my English skills.
Sometimes I come across words I don’t know, so it’s really useful.
It also makes me realize that my pronunciation is pretty bad.
After I talk with the AI character Lily, the app shows me our conversation in text, and then I realize that the words are different from what I actually said.
It’s a bit frustrating…
But talking with Lily is good practice for me because I have to respond quickly.
That means I need to create English sentences on the spot.
It’s tough.
-
doing Duolingo → using Duolingo
-
for improving my English → to improve my English
-
And it let me know → It also makes me realize
-
quick responce → quick response
-
promptly → on the spot

Few days ago, I changed the cabinet doors in the toilet using for re-make masking tape.
Original doors were boring brown, then I changed them from brown to patterned design.
The design is by William Morris.
Also I changed knob, from not interesting design one to very cute one.
I really satisfied.
After I did, I went to the vathroom many time, but every I saw the doors, I feel happy.

A few days ago, I redecorated the cabinet doors in my bathroom using decorative masking tape.
The original doors were a plain, boring brown, so I changed them to a patterned design.
The pattern is by William Morris.
I also replaced the knobs, switching from a dull design to some very cute ones.
I’m really satisfied with the result.
Since then, I’ve found myself going to the bathroom more often—every time I see the doors, I feel happy.
-
Few days ago → A few days ago
“few” は「ほとんどない」、“a few” で「いくつかある」。今回は a few days ago。
-
using for re-make masking tape → “using decorative masking tape”
-
Original doors were boring brown → “The original doors were a plain, boring brown”
-
changed them from brown to patterned design → “changed them to a patterned design”
“from A to B” も使えるけどここはシンプルに。
-
Also I changed knob → “I also replaced the knobs”
“replace” は「取り替える」意味でぴったり。
-
I really satisfied → “I’m really satisfied (with the result)”
“be satisfied” の形にするのが正解。
-
vathroom → bathroom 😊
-
every I saw → every time I saw

A few days ago, I gave the cabinet doors in my bathroom a little makeover with some decorative masking tape.
The doors used to be this dull brown, but now they’ve got a beautiful patterned design by William Morris.
I even swapped out the boring old knobs for some super cute ones.
Honestly, I can’t stop grinning at them.
Ever since I finished, I keep finding excuses to go to the bathroom—every time I see those doors, they make me smile.
Who knew cabinet doors could bring me this much joy?
-
Honestly, I can’t stop grinning at them.
-
Who knew … ? → 「

Now, I'm watching the basketball Asia League on TV.
I think this team is not so strong, and I've heard that Iran is so strong, but this match is good.
Especially, Tominaga is so good!
He is making a lot of three-point-shoot!
He is on fire!!
He is unstoppable!!
By the way, this TV channel offers the quiz dualing the game, about this game.
For example, who makes a first point, or, which team is ahead? or, till end of this quater how point 差があるか and so on.
If I got 20,000 points won the quiz, I can apply for the award like player's signed shirt.
Then I want to win, so I wish that "Please don't get a point now! Because I want to win to the quiz."
I'd like to cheer my favorite team, but I'd like to apply for award them I wish not good for them.

Corrected version
Right now, I’m watching the Basketball Asia League on TV.
I don’t think this team is very strong, and I’ve heard that Iran is really strong, but this match is exciting.
Especially Tominaga—he’s amazing!
He’s sinking a lot of three-pointers!
He’s on fire!!
He’s unstoppable!!
By the way, this TV channel offers quizzes during the game about the match.
For example: Who will score the first point? Or Which team will be ahead? Or What will be the point difference by the end of this quarter?, and so on.
If I get 20,000 quiz points, I can apply for prizes like a player’s signed shirt.
So now I’m like, “Please don’t score right now! I want to win the quiz!”
I want to cheer for my favorite team, but at the same time, I want to win the prize—so I end up wishing something bad for them.
It’s such a dilemma!!!
-
three-point-shoot → three-pointer(バスケでは「three-pointer」が自然)
-
He’s sinking a lot of three-pointers や He’s making a lot of three-pointers と言える
-
「クイズ dualing the game」は quizzes during the game
-
「till end of this quater how point What will be the point difference by the end of this quarter?
-
「I wish not good for them」は I end up wishing something bad for them にすると自然
-
Since I was a child, I liked playing video games.
My most favorite game series is Fire emblem, next is Final Fantasy 7.
The Ledend of Zelda series is also my favorite, but some of them are really difficult to play for me.
The difficult points are like vowing on the horse.
Or racing in the snow mountain.
I hate action games, so some games of Zelda, I couldn't finish.
Then when "The Legend of Zelda: Bless of the Wild" was released, I wasn't interested in.
But I heard that the game became so popular.
It got the game award of the year.
Then I've started to play it since a month ago.
Then I realized that if I am not good at doing action, I can avoid this.
So I can enjoy this game so far.
Now I'm regret that why I didn't start to play this game from earlier.

Since I was a child, I’ve liked playing video games.
My all-time favorite game series is Fire Emblem, followed by Final Fantasy VII.
I also like The Legend of Zelda series, but some of the games are really difficult for me to play.
The difficult parts include things like horseback archery and racing down snowy mountains.
I don’t like action games, so there were some Zelda games I couldn’t finish.
So when The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was released, I wasn’t interested at first.
But I heard it became very popular and even won Game of the Year.
About a month ago, I finally started playing it.
Then I realized that even if I’m not good at action gameplay, I can find ways to avoid it.
So far, I’ve been able to enjoy the game a lot.
Now, I regret not having started it sooner.
-
“horseback archery”:文法的には “vowing on the horse” は不自然な表現。
-
“wasn’t interested in” → “wasn’t interested at first”:「in」が必要ですが、「at first」を加えると文の流れがより自然に。
-
“I regret that why I didn’t start…” → “I regret not having started…”:後悔を表す自然な構文。
丁寧に書かれていて、英語の力が確実についてきているのを感じますよ😊
今回の表現はすぐに他でも応用できるものばかりなので、ぜひ覚えてみてくださいね!

She is pregnant and she said she wants to get back to this hospital after her childbirth.
I was so surprised, because I thought she is almost same age of me, but she was younger than me at least ten years, ...maybe.
She has position, skills, brain as a doctor, and she has her husband and she'll have baby!!
She has everything!!!
I'm not envy her but I was impressed that there are many woman like her and they are totally different from me.

When I went to the hospital, my doctor told me she would be absent for the next few months.
She’s pregnant, and she said she wants to come back to this hospital after giving birth.
I was so surprised because I thought she was about the same age as me, but it turned out she was at least ten years younger… maybe.
She has a position, skills, and brains as a doctor. She has a husband, and soon she’ll have a baby!!
She has everything!!!
I’m not envious of her, but I was amazed that there are women like her who are completely different from me.
The world is wide.
-
“about her absence in next few months” → “she would be absent for the next few months”
“in next few months”はやや不自然で、“for the next few months(今後数か月間)”の方が自然です。
また、“told me about her absence”よりも “told me she would be absent” の方が英語らしい表現です。
-
“after her childbirth” → “after giving birth”
“childbirth”は名詞で使えますが、“after giving birth”の方が日常会話では自然です。
-
“almost same age of me” → “about the same age as me”
比較のときは “the same age as” が正しいです。
-
“position, skills, brain” → “a position, skills, and brains”
-
“I’m not envy her” → “I’m not envious of her”
“envy”は動詞なので使うなら “I don’t envy her.”
形容詞なら “envious” → “I’m not envious of her.”
-
“they are totally different from me”
最後の「The world is wide.」

Yesterday, I went to the hospital to hear the result of CT scan.

The result for that, I'm going to hear next month from a doctor from breast surgery.
Yesterday, I heard about what my lump is from a doctor from plastic surgery.
My doctor explained about my lump, that's cause of water, then she put the water from my belly using an injection.
I was afraid that I was stabbed the injection without anesthesia, but it wasn't so painful.
I was able to see she was satisfied that she could did something to my lump, but I wasn't satisfied because my appearance was not changed.
Still, I can see there is a lump in my belly.
By the way, the doctor said that having this symptom is very rare case among people who underwent re-constract of the breast surgery.

Yesterday, I went to the hospital to hear the results of my CT scan.
The reason I had the scan was to check whether I might have another case of breast cancer.
I’ll get the results regarding that from a breast surgeon next month.
Yesterday, I spoke with a plastic surgeon about the lump on my belly.
She explained that the lump was caused by fluid buildup, and she removed the fluid using a syringe.
I was afraid it would hurt because she didn’t use any anesthesia, but it wasn’t as painful as I’d feared.
I could tell she was satisfied that she had done something about the lump, but I wasn’t satisfied because my appearance hadn’t changed.
There’s still a visible lump on my belly.
By the way, the doctor told me that this symptom is very rare among people who’ve undergone breast reconstruction surgery.
My breast cancer type was rare, and now I have a rare symptom too… I must be one of a kind! 😅
|---|---|---|
|
hear the result of CT scan |
hear the results of my CT scan |
“Results” は複数形が一般的(複数の情報が出るため)+”my” を加えると自然 |
|
if I have another breast cancer or not |
whether I might have another case of breast cancer |
“whether” の方が自然+ “another case of” をつけて文脈を明確に |
|
I’m going to hear next month from a doctor from breast surgery |
I’ll get the results regarding that from a breast surgeon next month |
表現をスムーズに、“a doctor from breast surgery” は少しかたい |
|
she put the water from my belly using an injection |
she removed the fluid using a syringe |
“put the water from” → 誤用(正しくは “remove fluid”)・“injection” → 通常「注射」の意味になるため、ここでは “syringe(注射器)” を使用 |
|
stabbed the injection |
stabbed with the injection |
|
she could did something |
she could do something |
助動詞の後は原形(“could did” はNG) |
|
because my appearance was not changed |
because my appearance hadn’t changed |
“not changed” より “hadn’t changed”(過去完了)が自然 |
|
I’m so a rare person |
I must be one of a kind! |
“This is a very rare case even among those who’ve had breast reconstruction.”

My English Diary – July 30th
Yesterday, I went to the hospital to hear the results of my CT scan.

I’ll hear the results of that from the breast surgery doctor next month.
Yesterday, I met with a plastic surgeon, who explained what the lump in my belly is.
She said it was caused by fluid buildup, and she removed the fluid using a syringe.
I was scared because she did it without anesthesia, but it wasn’t very painful.

There’s still a visible lump in my belly.

My type of breast cancer was rare, and this symptom is rare too…
